o b e c o m e f u l l y l i t e r a t e i n t o d a y ’ s world, students must become proficient i n t h e n e w l i t e r a c i e s o f 2 1 s t c e n t u ry technologies. As a result, literacy e d u c a t o r s h a v e a r e s p o n s i b i l i t y t o e f f e c tively integrate these new technologies i n t o t h e c u r r i c u l u m , p r e p a r i n g s t u d e n t s for the literacy future they deserve. T h e I n t e r n e t a n d o t h e r f o r m s o f i n f o r m a t i o n a n d c o m m u n i c a t i o n t e c h n o l o g i e s ( I C T s ) a r e r e d e f i n i n g t h e n a t u r e o f r e a d i n g , w r i t i n g , a n d c o m m u n i c a t i o n . T h e s e I C T s w i l l c o n t i n u e t o c h a n g e i n t h e y e a r s a h e a d , r e q u i r i n g c o n t i n u o u s l y n e w l i t e r a c i e s t o s u c c e s s f u l l y e x p l o i t t h e i r p o t e n t i a l s . A l t h o u g h m a n y n e w I C T s w i l l e m e r g e i n t h e f u t u r e , t h o s e t h a t a r e c o m m o n i n t h e l i v e s o f o u r s t u d e n t s i n c l u d e s e a r c h e n g i n e s , w e b p a g e s , e m a i l , i n s t a n t m e s s a g i n g ( I M ) , b l o g s , p o d c a s t s , e b o o k s , w i k i s , n i n g s , Y o u T u b e , v i d e o , a n d m a n y m o r e . N e w l i t e r a c y s k i l l s a n d p r a c t i c e s a r e r e q u i r e d b y e a c h n e w I C T a s i t e m e r g e s a n d e v o l v e s .
